Our Fair Trade Team

About our project

We won a BT schools awards project. Our project aimed to find out who feeds us and to ascertain whether they are paid a fair wage.

We found out that often farmers, especially in the third world, were not being paid a fair wage and that large companies who buy the raw materials often paid the lowest possible price for the goods.

We wondered what we could do.

We found out about the Fairtrade Foundation and the work that they were doing to make sure farmers were treated fairly.

We researched on the internet and looked at publications from Chistian aid, Cafod, Oxfam and Traidcraft.

We found out that if you see the Fairtrade logo on foods it guarantees that the farmer has received a fair price for his crops.

We became Fairtraders and opened a shop at school.

We produced a short drama that could be used to promote Fairtrade and used that as part of an assembly to take to local schools to raise awareness.

We have created a Fairtrade recipe book, made fairly traded Christmas cakes and set up this web site.

We have had a very positive response. Schools in our area have asked us to help them to set up shops in their school and we have performed the play for community groups, our largest audience has been 200 people.
